Also called a distributor cap, the ignition cap is part of older ignition systems that direct high-voltage current from the coil to the spark plugs. It’s located on the distributor and works with the rotor to fire the engine in the correct sequence. Cracks, moisture, or carbon buildup can cause misfires, hard starts, or poor performance. Many modern cars no longer use distributor caps, but for those that do, regular inspection is key.
