Found in four-wheel and all-wheel-drive vehicles, the transfer case splits engine power between the front and rear axles. It allows you to switch between 2WD and 4WD or manage torque in AWD systems. If it fails, you might hear grinding, feel jerking, or lose the ability to shift into 4WD. Maintenance includes regular fluid changes to prevent internal damage.
