Differential

Differential

The differential is a gearbox that allows your car’s wheels to turn at different speeds—especially while turning corners. Without it, the wheels would drag or skip during turns. There are front, rear, or center differentials depending on whether the car is front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, or all-wheel drive. If the differential fluid is low or the gears wear out, you might hear whining noises or feel vibrations while driving.
