Rear Main Seal

The rear main seal is located at the back of the engine where it connects to the transmission. It prevents engine oil from leaking out at the crankshaft. If it fails, you’ll often see oil dripping from the center-rear of the engine. Replacing it requires removing the transmission, so it's a labor-heavy repair. A leaking rear main seal should be addressed quickly to avoid oil loss and further damage.
